# NewsForBC source and production note — October 3, 2026

Original reporting lead: https://youtu.be/CJPQYJQQ9EE?si=xJe6CpBoQIRQZCou . Channel CBC News: The National. Title: B.C. arrests 5 foreign nationals tied to extortion and other crimes. Extractor upload_date 20261003, duration 126 seconds. The report concerns the October 2 RCMP announcement, not new October 3 arrests.

## Media recovery and attribution
YouTube metadata was captured, but captions returned HTTP429 and media formats returned HTTP403. An isolated newer extractor also failed. Recovered the matching report directly from CBC's official player https://www.cbc.ca/player/play/video/9.7368041 . CBC-player title and description match the YouTube metadata; reporter's spoken and visible credit is Tanya Fletcher. The CBC-player version is 121.221 seconds, shorter than the YouTube metadata's126 seconds; this is NOT represented as a byte-identical YouTube download or as every second of that upload. The complete CBC-player version is used, with original AAC audio payload preserved and its full1280x720 canvas placed without cropping in a1440x1040 NewsForBC frame. Transcoding is H264/AAC. No CBC watermarks, lower thirds or reporter credits were removed. NewsForBC framing and the accompanying research are separate from CBC's reporting, with no claim of CBC endorsement or co-production. The site's red/orange BC badge, white NewsForBC.com wordmark, navy/blue background and gold accents were reproduced from the live site's HTML/CSS identity. Representative beginning/middle/end frames inspected. Full video decode passed; audio payload hash matched. Automatic Whisper transcript has recognition errors (e.g. Surrey/Vancouver); names were verified against on-screen text and sources, not adopted from ASR.

## Evidence and limits
RCMP release read in full: https://rcmp.ca/en/bc/langley/news/2026/10/4357509 . Charges laid October1; five in custody as of October2. Names Sahil and Harsh are single names in the release. Sahil firearm-transfer bullets overlap; no invented charge total. Toronto/Surrey arrest locations control over a conflicting Postmedia introductory sentence mentioning Ottawa. Ottawa is Jagdeep Singh's residence. Suspected substances remain suspected, not laboratory-confirmed. Controlled entry for arrest is not described as extradition or deportation.

Surrey official page fetched directly: September28 figures142 reports,21 shots-fired,3 arsons,76 victims including39 repeat. Search/extraction caches returned older numbers; direct source and Canadian Press agree. These are citywide reports, not convictions or this case's totals. Reporting and tip-line purposes remain distinct. Reward fund250000 is not the individual maximum100000.

Postmedia reports October5 bail hearings; no registry listing, sworn Information, court file number, judicial reasons, publication-ban determination, or defence response independently obtained. No judge publicly identified in accessible sources; monitoring only, no misconduct claim. No evidence establishes all five's specific permit/asylum/removal histories or gang membership. CBC's broader100-plus removals claim was not independently matched to a CBSA breakdown and is labelled accordingly.

The separate emergency-readiness map was expressly excluded and is not part of this story. Private contact details and victim addresses were not reproduced. Full sources with roles appear in sources.json. Original captures/metadata remain local; public package contains selected notes, evidence ledger, source links and framed media.
