A BetterBC post is circulating a major claim about B.C. land transfers and First Nations. NewsForBC checked the source trail.

The core issue is real, but the wording matters. BC Mine Ledger’s report claims 102 First Nations land-transfer/acquisition records with a selected portfolio value of $1.4608B. But the same report separates that portfolio value from proven acquisition-specific public expenditure, which it puts at $83.539M.

So the NewsForBC question is not just “did the province spend $1.46B?” It is: why is there no plain, transaction-level public ledger where taxpayers can see land values, public payments, Crown land, grants, settlements and public-entity involvement in one place?
